20.10.2011 - 21.10.2011
We finally made it back to LP which would be mine and Kate's final destination together.. Kate was heading to Cambodia on a monster mission through the South of Laos and I was still a bit undecided as to what was next for me.. the flooding in Thailand is a bit concerning and I want to get to the beach but I also hear the Vang Vieng is also very nice, there is a huge party scene there which I am not up for right now but I also hear it is great for the scenery and the surrounding countryside and if I dont like it I can just keep going to Bangkok and then to the islands.. decisions decisions!!
The nice thing about going back to a place is you know exactly where is good to stay and where is good to eat, so we quickly got sorted back in our guest house with free hot drinks and bananas and tucked into our dirt cheap veggie buffet!
Big Brother Mouse
We had heard about a teaching project in Vientene and LP called Big brother mouse, its an organisation set up by locals that basically helps teenagers and young adults to read and write English, they also publish childrens book in Laos and English for children in poorer villages who wouldn't otherwise have story books. Evry morning you can go and volunteer for 2 hours litening to the young adults read or talking to them in English. I spent my time the next morning with a young monk of 16 and a local boy of 18. Both of them only had very basic English, we ended up spending the time talking in English I taught them the word favourite which they practiced a lot, we also played games including "I went to Laos and I brought" we got up to 21 consecutive items! More info on the org can be found on their website http://www.bigbrothermouse.com/about.html
After lunch we met up with a guy we had met the previous evening and a girl called Cheryl who was from Bristol! They were going to a waterfall and we decided to join them at the last minute.. We assumed it was the same waterfall we went to the last time we were in LP but it turned out to be another amazing waterfall much closer to town.. It was amazing, we took a short long tail boat to reach it and we were very pleased we decded to come! There was a massive pool to swim in and the trees surrounding the whole site were amazing very wild!
Kate and I spent our last sunset overlooking the Mekong with fruit shakes - such a tradition!
When you meet someone travelling you get very close very fast so saying goodbye is very hard, not wanting things to change but knowing they have to.. so at 6:15 am I waved Kate off sadly, I know we will see each other again in the not too distant future - Barcelona is in the plan already for spring 2012, we have shared some amazing times and she has taught me a lot and I will miss her very much.. Right now to focus on my next adventure!!!
